PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To support the overall operations of the bakery by maintaining merchandising standards, ensuring accurate pricing, providing excellent customer service, and upholding cleanliness and food safety — contributing to the store’s profitability.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Grade 11/12 (National Senior Certificate)
- 2 years’ experience in customer service or retail.
ADVANTAGEOUS
Knowledge of:
- Customer service standards
- Food handling basics
- Operational and clerical procedures
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Merchandising
- Collect stock from production/cold room and pack shelves according to standards.
- Rotate stock continuously using FIFO principles.
- Maintain clean and attractive display counters.
- Keep cold rooms neat and orderly.
- Uphold QDVP4 merchandising standards.
Pricing & Product Labelling
- Place correct price stickers on products.
- Check price change register to ensure accuracy.
- Update price labels promptly when prices change.
- Ensure all products scan correctly at tills.
- Display promotional flashes on relevant items.
Sales & Customer Service
- Provide fast, friendly, and effective service to customers.
- Advise customers on bakery products, use/application, and promotions.
- Assist with customer enquiries and handle customer orders timeously.
- Promote specials and distribute promotional posters.
Stock Taking
- Assist in stock take preparation and attend scheduled stock takes.
Housekeeping, Health & Safety
- Maintain a high standard of hygiene and food safety.
- Ensure work areas are clean and kept hygienic at all times (“clean as you go”).
- Switch off appliances safely at close of business.
General & Ad Hoc Duties
- Ensure confidentiality of company information.
- Assist in other areas of the department/store during staff shortages.
- Report incidents (accidents, theft, damage) and handle where possible.
- Attend required meetings, training sessions, workshops, or seminars.
