PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

 

To control the overall operation of the inventory department by ensuring correct stock ordering, accurate stock counts, and prompt resolution of inventory discrepancies, in order to maintain agreed stock levels and support effective store operations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

  • National Senior Secondary Certificate (Grade 11/12).
  • Minimum 4 years’ retail experience, of which at least 2 years must be in an inventory environment.

 

ADVANTAGEOUS

 

  • NQF Level 5 qualification in Business Administration, Procurement, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management.
  • SAP / ARCH system experience.
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office).

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Inventory Control & Stock Management

  • Plan and execute store stock counts accurately and according to schedule.
  • Verify ordered stock and confirm deliveries.
  • Ensure all interdepartmental transfers are correctly processed.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies and variances.
  • Maintain agreed stock levels across all departments.
  • Analyse obsolete and dormant stock and report findings to management.

Pricing Control

  • Review and validate daily price updates against official price change reports.
  • Distribute updated pricing information to department heads.
  • Conduct weekly till spot checks to ensure pricing accuracy.
  • Ensure all shelves and displays are correctly ticketed.

Stock Take & Administration

  • Coordinate and oversee stock‑taking processes to ensure accurate, systematic counts.
  • Supervise capturing of stock take data and investigate variance reports.
  • Ensure availability of resources required for stock counts.

Supplier & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with management and suppliers to maintain product availability.
  • Ensure sufficient stock for promotions and escalate supply issues where necessary.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure hygiene, cold‑chain, and health & safety standards are maintained.
  • Encourage staff compliance with safety regulations and SOPs.
  • Report non‑compliance issues to store management.

People Management

  • Oversee the performance and work delivery of reporting staff.
  • Assist with recruitment, scheduling, overtime control, and leave planning.
  • Provide on‑the‑job training, coaching, and performance support.

General & Ad Hoc

  • Maintain confidentiality of company documents and trade secrets.
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, workshops, and stocktakes as required.
  • Provide operational support during absences or high‑pressure periods.
