PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To lead the Quality Control and Quality Assurance function at Farmers Meat Market Mariental Abattoir and ensure full compliance with FSSC 22000, Namibian veterinary and public health requirements and applicable market requirements. The role provides assurance that products, processes and documentation meet internal standards, customer and market expectations, and external audit requirements.
KEY JOB OUTPUTS:
- Implement, maintain and continuously improve work instructions, procedures and food safety programmes aligned to HACCP, FSSC 22000 and DVS requirements covering prerequisite programmes, food fraud and food defence plans, verification and validation activities, traceability and recall execution.
- Own and maintain the abattoirs Quality Control and Quality Assurance programmes and the food safety and quality documentation system, ensuring audit readiness for customer, veterinary, regulatory and certification requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable Namibian veterinary requirements relating to animal supply, meat and hide handling, processing, storage, distribution and coordination of inspections, approvals and statutory reporting as required.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable requirements for the abattoir’s local and export markets covering product and process standards, labelling, hygiene, cold chain controls, traceability and documentation expectations.
- Monitor and manage suppliers to ensure they consistently meet agreed quality, food safety and regulatory requirements including all applicable export market requirements and documentation standards.
- Verify, approve and authorise the release of packaging materials, food-grade lubricants, chemicals and pest control chemicals in accordance with FSSC 22000 requirements and approved specifications.
- Lead and manage the Quality team including allocation of responsibilities, performance management, coaching and development of direct reports to ensure effective execution of the food safety and quality programmes.
- Ensure the quality of raw meat from receiving through processing and recommend practical improvements to protect product integrity and compliance.
- Consolidate and present monthly management reports on non-conformances, customer complaints, trends and process shortcomings with corrective and preventive actions.
- Analyse non-conforming products and processes to ensure effective containment, root cause analysis, corrective action and verification of effectiveness.
- Ensure annual renewal of the Fitness Certificate to maintain compliance with public health and hygiene requirements under the General Health Regulations.
- Facilitate and ensure ongoing training, competency development and performance coaching for the team and other departments and plan and execute food safety training, record keeping, verification activities and internal inspections.
- Lead, coach and develop cross-functional teams to strengthen the abattoir’s food safety culture and ensure consistent execution of standards.
- Maintain effective working relationships with DVS and Meat Board personnel
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
- A Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Natural resources, Agriculture, Environmental Health or Public Health.
- 6 years of experience in a Quality, Food Safety and Regulatory area in FMCG with 2 years supervisory experience.
- Experience in the meat industry and exposure to FSSC 22000, meat matrix and SAP systems will be an advantage.
