PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
To oversee and coordinate all repairs, maintenance, gardens, grounds, and farm operations at the Lodge, ensuring optimal functionality, safety, and aesthetic appeal. The role is responsible for planning and executing preventative maintenance in line with quality standards and operational objectives. This includes maintaining lodge infrastructure, guest facilities, landscaping, and assets to support a world-class guest experience. Drive cost-effective, sustainable practices while ensuring all work meets O&L Leisure’s service excellence and environmental standards.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management or National Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering (Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration) (Level 3)
- Minimum of 8 years' work experience, of which at least 3 years should be in a supervisory or managerial role within facilities, or property maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of preventative maintenance systems, building services, electrical and mechanical operations, irrigation systems, and landscaping.
- Knowledge of grounds management, horticultural disciplines, and landscaping.
- Project Management experience, including overseeing renovations and capital projects.
- Computer literate in Microsoft office suite
- Proficiency in SAP PMP.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Preventative Maintenance Program for all equipment in the hotel, including the kitchen and laundry.
- Establish annual and quarterly maintenance plans, ensuring coverage for preventive, corrective, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance.
- Oversee the building maintenance and guest room and public area rehabilitation.
- Conduct regular inspections across all lodge and farm facilities to identify repair needs, prioritize tasks, and minimize downtime.
- Provide oversight on planner duties, including opening/initiating internal orders, notifications, maintenance work orders, planning activities with required resources, ordering materials, and tracking all maintenance activities within the respective area.
- Prepare the annual repairs & maintenance budget in collaboration with the Financial Controller and Management, commensurate with operational requirements of the property.
- Analyzes and ensure accurate maintenance data in SAP for operational efficiency, cost control and manual planning boards.
- Observe energy efficiency of all equipment, suggest replacement of energy inefficient equipment, and report energy wastage to management.
- Maintain a comprehensive library of manuals and parts lists of all operational equipment, as well as a complete set of up-to-date drawings of all areas and systems.
- Conduct regular inspections across all lodge and farm facilities to identify repair needs, prioritize tasks, and minimize downtime.
- Oversee building, guest room, and public area maintenance to ensure operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.
- Perform regular planner duties, including opening/initiating internal orders, notifications, maintenance work orders, planning activities with required resources, ordering materials, and tracking all maintenance activities within the respective area.
- Monitor budget and control expenses with a focus on energy management, preventive maintenance, and capital planning.
- Develop specifications and requirements for service contracts and administer such contracts.
- Observe energy efficiency of all equipment, forwarding to management suggestions for replacement of energy inefficient equipment and to report to all management, all wastage of energy. that all documents related to the operation of the department are being kept up to date, and that all records are correctly maintained and file.
- Provide Risk Management Committee representatives with adequate resources including time to actively participate in the committee.
- Oversee daily farm operations, ensuring efficient and effective completion of tasks and conduct weekly farm inspections to assess compliance with operational standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure sustainable and well-maintained water sources to meet farm operational needs.
- Ensure that all farm operations comply with local laws and regulations, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant standards and policies.
- Ensure proper management of irrigation systems, including monitoring and adjusting watering schedules based on weather and seasonal needs.
- Ensure compliance with environmentally friendly waste management practices.
- Lead sustainable gardening and landscaping initiative.
- Manage day-to-day staffing requirements. Plan and assign work and establish performance and development goals for team members.
- Assist in the building of an efficient team of employees by taking an active interest in their welfare, safety, and development.
