PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To maintain the safe handling, care, and management of snakes at Ontouka Reptile Park. Including conducting engaging and educational snake shows and providing a safe and informative experience for all guests.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCES
- Min Grade 10
- Certificate or Course for Handling of Snakes.
- 1 year experience in handling reptiles, particularly snakes.
- Strong knowledge of snake species, behavior, and proper handling techniques.
- Multilingual proficiency in German will be an advantage.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Welcome customers/guests and monitor the overall experience to ensure the service offered creates an unforgettable, unique experience.
- Clean and maintain enclosures, ensuring they are secure and meet the species' habitat requirements.
- Feed all the reptiles once a week and animals daily, ensuring they have enough water to drink daily.
- Conduct snake shows, providing educational information about snake species, their habitats, and conservation efforts.
- Engage with guests during shows, answering questions and fostering a positive and educational experience.
- Lead guided tours of the snake park, highlighting key features and interesting facts about the various snake species.
- Stay updated with local wildlife regulations and ensure the lodge’s snake park is in compliance.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the work area and storerooms before the end of each shift per the standards.
- Follow all safety protocols to prevent snake bites and ensure the safety of the handler and the public and adhere to regulations concerning health, safety, or other compliance requirements,
- Maintain awareness of all emergency contacts, first aider/representative, fire exits and fire wardens for the Hotel.
- Report and where possible handle cases of accident, fire, theft, loss, damage, or contravention of regulations.
- Maintain Company standards and ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Willing to work shifts, weekends and Public Holidays as dictated by business volumes.
