PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

 

To perform the overall operations within the Perishables Department by implementing required merchandising and operational standards and delivering excellent customer service to support the profitability of the store.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

  • National Senior Secondary Certificate (Grade 11/12).

 

ADVANTAGEOUS

 

  • 1–2 years’ customer service and/or retail experience, preferably in a perishables environment.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Merchandising

  • Collect stock from cold rooms and pack shelves according to set standards.
  • Rotate stock continuously in line with the FIFO principle.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in cold rooms and on shelves.
  • Maintain QDVP4 standards, including bulk displays.

Pricing Functions

  • Place correct price stickers on products as per pricing standards.
  • Check price change registers and update price stickers when required.
  • Verify barcode scanning accuracy at tills.
  • Place promotional flashes on promotional and seasonal items.

Sales & Customer Service

  • Provide prompt, friendly, and effective service to customers.
  • Assist customers with product enquiries, pricing, and usage information.
  • Promote current specials and promotional offers.

Preparation of Specialties

  • Prepare and present all perishables specialties timeously and attractively.
  • Attend to customer orders and prepare in‑store value‑added lines as required.

 

Stock Taking

  • Prepare for and attend scheduled stock takes.

General & Ad Hoc

  • Maintain company standards and comply with all policies and procedures.
  • Safeguard confidential company information.
  • Assist in other areas during absences or high‑demand periods.
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, and workshops as required.
