PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

 

To control and facilitate all operational activities within the Foods & Toiletries Department in line with required standards and procedures, with the goal of maximising sales, enhancing customer service, and contributing to overall business profitability.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

  • National Senior Level Certificate (Grade 11/12).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Foods & Toiletries retail environment, including 1 year in a supervisory role.

 

ADVANTAGEOUS

 

  • Prior supervisory experience in retail.
  • Product knowledge: product lifespan, merchandising standards, stock layout, stock rotation.
  • SAP / ARCH knowledge, receiving procedures, stock ordering, and people management skills.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Attainment of Budgeted Results

  • Drive sales to achieve monthly turnover and gross profit targets.
  • Implement control mechanisms to meet shrinkage and waste targets.
  • Prepare and coordinate stock take activities, including variance resolution.

 

Stock Management & Merchandising

  • Oversee stock rotation, stock levels and expired stock control.
  • Place and receive orders timeously while following receiving procedures.
  • Maintain range availability and implement planograms.
  • Apply and monitor QDVP4 standards.
  • Conduct mule trains and manage Inter-Departmental Transfers (IDT).

 

Housekeeping, Health & Safety

  • Ensure housekeeping standards are consistently adhered to.
  • Monitor hygiene and food safety practices across the department.
  • Check cooler and fridge temperatures daily.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned, serviced and safely switched off at close of business.

 

People Management & Leadership

  • Supervise and guide department staff to achieve operational excellence.
  • Manage staff performance, provide coaching, and facilitate training.
  • Schedule weekly work hours, manage overtime, and approve leave.
  • Ensure staff adhere to company dress code and hygiene standards.
  • Conduct recruitment, selection, discipline, and policy communication.

 

General & Ad Hoc Duties

  • Maintain confidentiality of company documents and trade secrets.
  • Attend required meetings, training, workshops and seminars.
  • Provide relief in other areas during absences or high-demand periods.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures at all times.
