PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

 

To greet and welcome all guests to the hotel and relieve guests of their luggage upon arrival. In addition to assisting guests with luggage, porters are also responsible for collecting and distributing postal parcels. And also deal with general inquiries and ensure the lobby and forecourt areas are always clean and tidy.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Min Grade 12 plus Higher Certificate
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a porter/concierge position at a 4- or 5-star hotel/lodge
  • Knowledge of OPERA
  • A valid driver’s licence code 8 with valid PDP

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Greeting all guests in the reception area in a warm and professional manner make them feel welcome and anticipate their needs before they arise
  • Maintain a friendly attitude, welcome and acknowledge each guest with a smile, and a friendly verbal greeting in line with the sequence of service.
  • Handle all guest complaints in a courteous and professional manner and provide feedback to the guest.
  • Check the daily arrival list for VVIPs or guests with special needs.
  • Maintain presence at the concierge/reception desk or in the lobby to be ready to assist guests, colleagues, and visitors when requested.
  • Assist guests with their luggage, including loading and unloading it from vehicles.
  • Collect and deliver guest luggage and equipment in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Tag baggage and return the identification slips to guests.
  • Escort guests to their rooms and place luggage in the room assigned by the front desk.
  • Deliver messages, packages, and flowers to guests’ rooms and other offices.
  • Ensure that the guest has verified that all luggage has been accounted for.
  • Ensure safe storage and collect ticketing of guest coats and personal items.
  • Transport departing guests’ luggage from the room to the lobby, then into a car or taxi after reconfirming with the guest.
  • Update the luggage movement register
  • Assist with answering the telephone and taking messages, transferring calls or dealing with enquiries
  • Works closely with the housekeeping department in keeping room status reports up to date and coordinates requests for maintenance and repair work.
  • Articulate and maintain developed standards, product knowledge, and grooming.
  • Constantly monitor and check the quality of service delivery towards the guests and make sure the processes are speaking to the brand and the provided quality guidelines.
  • Comply with the implemented system of quality and reliability testing for the organization's products and processes.
  • Ensure delivered service is consistent and meets/exceeds expectations.
