Purpose of this Boilermaker position:

To safely and accurately plan, fabricate and install steel structures to the highest level of workmanship and quality in order to satisfy the needs and requirements of our company.

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12, National Trade Certificate in Boilermaking from an accredited institution.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated platforms, and demanding environmental conditions.
  • Three (3) years’ relevant experience in a fabrication environment in the marine industry with tasks such as:
    • Mechanical fitting, assembly, and maintenance of marine and offshore components.
    • Reading and interpreting technical, mechanical, and isometric drawings.
    • Precision alignment, shaft fitting, bearing installation, and bolting techniques.
    • Fabrication, installation, and maintenance of structural steel, piping, and mechanical systems.
    • Safe use of machining, grinding, and welding preparation techniques.

 

Preferred/Advantageous:

  • Certification in welding, pipefitting, or structural fabrication.
  • Health & Safety: Knowledge of the Namibian Labour Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and ISO 45001 standards.

 

 

KEY DELIVERABLES:

 

Fabrication and Erection of Structured Steel, Pipe and Tanks

  • Understand and interpret technical drawings.
  • Accurately plan and organise task execution in terms of standard operating procedures and in accordance with drawing specification, company specifications and supervisors instructions.
  • Accurately assemble, install, and secure structural steel components per project requirements and classification society standards (e.g., Lloyd’s Register, DNV, ABS).
  • Perform pre-installation inspections, including dimensional checks and quality control verifications.
  • Determine, special tools, gasket materials and specific consumable requirements accurately in terms of type, quantity, grade and specific applications.
  • Request and receive materials from supervisor and verify correctness of received materials.
  • Accurately measure, mark out, prepare and cut materials in accordance with drawing specifications, company specifications and supervisors instructions.
  • Fabricate, assemble and install fit plates and pipes as per drawing and supervisor instruction, using appropriate assembly methods such as jigs, strong backs, back stoppers, clamps, wedges, tack-welds
  • Inspect work piece for dimensional accuracy, required quality standard, task correctness and present to supervisor for verification.
  • Perform all required gas cutting, tacking and safe handling and lifting during fabrication process.
  • Demonstrate proper and safe use of hand tools, equipment and machinery, report all non-conformities to supervisor.
  • Ensure correct weld preparation as per drawing and weld procedure specification is done.
  • Make sure all care is taken in prevention of distortion during welding.
  • Understanding and effectively applying radius corners weld intersections such as nozzle selection, cutting pressure settings, line cutting free hand, line cutting using hand held guide, using straight line cutter, washing of frames (M&O Specific), bevel cutting, grinding frames & bevels (M&O Specific), pre-heating, tack welding and basic welding, operating guillotine, press brake, rollers, setting up jigs, plate/ pipe development.
  • Conduct repairs, modifications, and routine maintenance on fabricated structures and existing shipyard installations.

 

Health and Safety

  • Adhere to company HSE policies, procedures and SOPs, ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Complete “5 Steps” safety task observation.
  • Complete risk assessment with a team and/or Supervisor and/or client representative on site.
  • Adhere to company and legislative Health, Safety and Environmental standards.
  • Apply and encourage good housekeeping practices.
  • Ensure proper waste management, material handling, and hazardous substance disposal in compliance with environmental regulations.

 

Ad hoc duties

  • Keep confidential documents and trade secrets of the Company secure.
  • Adhere to Company policies and procedures and maintain Company standards.
  • Supervise small work teams as per supervisors instructions
  • Provide on the job training and skills development for assigned assistants.
  • Attend to any reasonable request made by the Line Manager that falls within your works cope.
  • Maintain the Company’s standards and ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to
  • Perform overtime work on request.
  • Relieve and assist in all areas during periods of absence or crisis.
  • Attend meetings, training courses, workshops or seminars as required.
  • Report, and where possible handle, cases of accident, fire, theft, loss, damage, or contravention of regulations.
