PURPOSE

To perform day-to-day operations within the Perishables Deli department (Cheese & Cold Meats), by implementing required standards, maintaining product quality, and delivering excellent customer service to support store profitability and an exceptional customer experience.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
• Minimum 1–2 years’ experience in retail, deli, or food handling environment.
• Basic understanding of customer service principles.

ADVANTAGEOUS

• Experience working in: Deli / cheese / cold meats, and Fresh or perishables departments.
• Knowledge of: Food handling, Stock rotation (FIFO), and Product presentation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Service & Sales

• Provide fast, friendly, and professional service to customers
• Assist customers with product enquiries, slicing, and recommendations
• Promote deli products, specials, and add-on sales

Deli Operations (Cheese & Cold Meats)

• Slice, pack, and prepare cheese and cold meat products according to standards
• Ensure attractive presentation and display of all products
• Maintain continuous product knowledge to assist customers effectively

Stock Management & Merchandising

• Pack and replenish shelves and displays according to standards
• Apply stock rotation (FIFO) and remove expired or damaged products
• Ensure correct pricing, labelling, and barcode accuracy

Health, Safety & Hygiene

• Always maintain strict hygiene and food safety standards
• Ensure equipment and work areas are clean and properly maintained
• Handle products in accordance with food safety requirements
