Purpose of Position:
The Employee Relations Practitioner is responsible for promoting positive employee-employer relationships and ensuring a harmonious and productive work environment within the organization. This role is responsible to serve as a mediator, advocate, and facilitator, addressing employee concerns, resolving conflicts, and supporting a culture of fairness, inclusion, compliance, and effective communication.
Qualifications/Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial psychology / human resources specializing in labour relations
- 5 years’ relevant experience
- MS Office Proficient
- Extensive knowledge of the Labour Act
- Drivers License
Key Accountabilities:
Employee Relations
- Mediate and resolve workplace conflicts and disputes, ensuring a fair and constructive resolution for all parties involved.
- Promote open and transparent communication between employees and management, fostering trust and cooperation.
- Coordinate and facilitate regular workers' committee / shop steward meetings to promote a healthy workplace relationship between employees and management
- Educate employees on company policies, procedures, and relevant labour laws, and ensure compliance to minimize potential disputes and legal issues.
- Plan and deliver ER-related training programs to equip employees with the skills and knowledge necessary for their roles, and assist in career development, such as Chairing and Initiating a Disciplinary Hearing
- Provide regular reports to management on all ER related matters to influence decision-making
- Stay up to date with labour laws, regulations, and Company policies to ensure the organization's adherence, reducing legal risks.
Disciplinary Hearing Process
- Provide guidance to both the employee facing disciplinary action and the management team regarding the disciplinary process, its steps, and the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved.
- Review the documentation related to the disciplinary issue, including the employee's record, the incident reports, witness statements, and any relevant policies and procedures.
- Ensure that the disciplinary process is compliant with the organization's policies and procedures, as well as the Namibian labor laws and regulations, to maintain fairness and legal adherence.
- Facilitate disciplinary hearings as per the provisions of the ER Policy and Procedure.
- Maintain detailed records of the disciplinary hearing proceedings, including notes, evidence, and statements, which may be needed for future reference or legal purposes.
Compliance and Policy Administration
- Stay updated on relevant employment laws and regulations, ensuring company-wide compliance.
- Support HR audits and compliance reporting as required.
- Assist in the implementation and communication of all ER related policies and procedures.
Affirmative Action
- Conduct AA meetings and implement all AA related actions to comply to the Employment Equity regulations.
- Provide input to the compilation of the annual Affirmative Action Report. .
