Purpose of the position:

The Engineer-in-Training (EIT) position is a developmental role aimed at equipping engineering graduates with the technical and professional experience required for registration with the Engineering Council of Namibia (ECN). Through structured training, mentorship, and on-the-job experience, the EIT will be exposed to various aspects of engineering work, gaining the competencies needed to progress toward professional status.

 

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.

1 Year experience in Industrial Structural and Civil Design and Construction

Eligible to register as a Graduate Engineer with the Engineering Council of Namibia (ECN).

 

Key Objectives:

Develop engineering skills through practical applications under the guidance of senior engineers.

Contribute to the successful delivery of projects in line with technical, quality, safety, and environmental standards.

Maintain a comprehensive training record in accordance with ECN requirements.

Progress toward professional registration as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.)/ Incorporated Engineer (Inc.Eng) in Namibia.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Support project planning, design, analysis, and implementation activities.

Assist in preparing technical documentation, specifications, reports, and engineering drawings.

Participate in site visits, inspections, testing, and data analysis under supervision.

Apply engineering standards, codes, and best practices in all tasks.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve engineering problems.

Document and maintain a training logbook aligned with ECN competency standards.

Engage in ongoing training, mentoring, and performance reviews as part of the development programme.

 

Development Outcome:

After completing the prescribed training period, the Engineer-in-Training is expected to:

Fulfill all requirements for registration as a Professional/Incorporated Engineer (Pr. Eng/Inc Eng.) with the ECN.

Demonstrate technical proficiency, ethical practice, and leadership potential.

Transition into more senior engineering or project management roles within the organization.
