PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Ensure the safe and environmentally acceptable operation of each vessel and to provide a link between the company and those on-board the vessels, by performing the roles and responsibility of the Designated Person (DP) in accordance with the International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention (ISM Code) and within the framework of the company’s Vessel Safety and Environmental Management System (VSEMS).

QUALIFICATION(S) AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Minimum Grade 12 plus Higher Certificate (qualification in safety field)
• Minimum 3 years experience in a Health and Safety environment, of which 2 years is in a seagoing/ship-repair/marine accident investigation environment
• Drivers License

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct safety inspections, audits and Reporting
• Prepare yearly summary of VSEMS status and identify trends, areas of concern and potential sources of improvements
• Plan, coordinate and conduct shipboard and shore-based safety and/or environmental drills or exercises
• Conduct training and awareness
• Plan, coordinate and maintain ISM certificates for the company and for all vessels
• Provide advice to top management on relevant maritime safety and environment rules and regulations
• Maintain the Company’s standards and ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
