Purpose of Position:
To provide strategic and operational leadership of all fleet technical functions by translating fleet strategy into integrated technical plans, ensuring optimal vessel performance, regulatory compliance, and cost-effective maintenance practices. The role serves as a critical bridge between fleet operations and technical execution, aligning long-term fleet objectives with day-to-day engineering and maintenance activities.
Qualification(s) and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or related technical field
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in marine engineering environments, with at least 5 years in a senior technical or management role
- Marine Engineer Officer Class 3 / 4 Certificate of competency will be an added advantage
- Proven experience in fleet maintenance strategy, asset lifecycle management, and workshop operations
- Strong knowledge of maritime regulations, safety standards, and environmental compliance requirements
- Demonstrated experience in budget management, CAPEX planning, and cost control.
- Leadership experience managing multi-disciplinary technical teams.
- Valid Code BE driver’s license
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Strategy & Asset Management - Translate fleet strategy into a comprehensive technical and maintenance strategy for all vessels and equipment. Develop and implement asset lifecycle management plans, including refurbishment, replacement, and upgrade strategies.
Maintenance Planning & Execution Oversight - Ensure alignment between shore-based workshop activities and on-board engineering requirements. Monitor maintenance execution quality, ensuring adherence to standards and minimizing downtime. Provide technical oversight and support for major repairs, breakdowns, and emergency interventions.
Financial & Cost Management - Develop and manage the fleet technical budget (OPEX and CAPEX) in alignment with overall fleet financial targets.
Projects & Continues Improvement - Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to required technical standards.
Compliance, Safety & Environmental Management - Ensure all vessels and technical operations comply with maritime regulations, classification requirements, and safety standards. Oversee implementation of health, safety, and environmental policies within technical operations and workshops.
Stakeholder & Operational Integration - Act as the key technical interface between Fleet Management and workshop teams.
People Leadership & Capability Development - Lead, coach, and develop the Fleet Technical Superintendent and technical teams. Ensure appropriate skills development, succession planning, and technical training programs are in place.
