Purpose of Position:
To safely and accurately plan mechanical work in a junior leadership position, to the highest level of workmanship and quality in order to satisfy the needs and requirements of our company and clients.
Qualifications/Key Requirements:
- Grade 12 with English, Maths and Science
- National Engineering Certificate (Level 3 + Trade Test)
- At least 6 years or more post trade experience in a mechanical environment, including 3 years in a lead/supervisory capacity
- Valid drivers license
Key Accountabilities:
- Accurate measurement of parts and intrepretation of mechanical drawings, understand and interpret technical drawings
- Calculate and determine, spare parts, special tools, materials and specific consumables, request materials from supervisor and verify correctness of received materials
- Mark,strip, clean, inspect, calibrate, repair, overhaul, service, test, assemble and reinstate all mechanical components and equipment
- Strip, install and comission all mechanical components and equipment as required
- Perform accurate alignment on shafts, couplings, gearboxes, etc
- Take accurate measurements using clock gauges, feeler gauges, calipers, micrometer, verniers calipers, etc.
- Demonstrate the correct and safe use of liquid nitrogen, dry ice and safe use of oil bath and bearing heaters
- Perform proper bolts torque techniques, gear back lash setting, key to coupling and shaft to taper fitting methods
- Demonstrate proper and safe use of hand tools, equipment and machinery and report all non-conformities to supervisor
- Perform basic reqired gas cutting and welding, safe handling and rigging up to 5 tons during mechanical work process
- Creates plans for completion of own work projects and those of team members
- Supervise the mechanical fitters, plan and organise tasks and work responsibilities to achieve objectives timeously on a daily basis
- Monitor own activities and those of team members and report regularly on project progress
- Conduct a post-plan review of effectiveness
- Proper and effective workforce planning and utilisation on all projects, not limited to projects for external clients but including workshop maintenance, in-house projects and idle time periods.
- Responsible for general cost management of jobs and estimating the time spent on jobs
- Compile and submit project technical reports when required
