PURPOSE

To control and facilitate all activities within the Perishables and Deli departments by implementing required standards and procedures, ensuring product quality, maximising sales, and delivering excellent customer service to support store profitability.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• National Senior Level Certificate
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a perishables/food environment
• Supervisory experience in retail or food service
• Strong knowledge of: Cold chain management, Product lifespan, Waste management and Stock rotation (FIFO)

ADVANTAGEOUS

• Experience in deli, hot foods, or fresh departments
• Knowledge of stock ordering and receiving processes
• Strong people management capability

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales & Performance

• Drive departmental sales and profitability targets.
• Manage shrinkage, waste, and gross profit performance.
• Ensure merchandising and product availability standards.

Stock Management & Merchandising

• Control stock levels, ordering, and replenishment.
• Ensure FIFO and proper stock rotation practices.
• Maintain product quality and remove expired/damaged stock.

Food Preparation & Deli Operations

• Oversee preparation and presentation of deli and perishables products.
• Ensure production meets quality and customer expectations.
• Maintain high presentation and display standards.

Health, Safety & Hygiene

• Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
• Monitor temperature control, cleaning, and equipment usage.
• Maintain clean and safe working environment.

People Management

• Supervise, train, and develop team members.
• Manage scheduling, attendance, and performance.
• Enforce discipline and company standards.
