Purpose of Position:
To safely and accurately plan welding process on steel structures in a leader position, to the highest level of workmanship and quality in order to satisfy the needs and requirements of our company and clients.
Qualifications/Key Requirements:
- Grade 12 with English, Maths and Science
- National Engineering Certificate (Level 3 + Trade Test)
- At least 6 years or more post trade experience in a welding and steel fabrication environment, including 3 years in a lead/supervisory capacity
- Coded up to G6
Key Accountabilities:
- Accurately plan and organize task execution in terms of standard operating procedures and in accordance with drawing specifications, company specifications and supervisors’ instructions
- Ensure correct weld preparation as per drawing and weld procedure specification is done
- Comprehensive of weld procedures & symbols
- Understand and Interpret codes & standards
- Welding equipment operations & maintenance
- Tacking materials for welding
- Adjusts amperage for the welding position and plate thickness
- Cleans tack welds and deposits root run
- Removes tack welds as welding progresses, cleans root run and examines for cracking or wagon tracks
- Re-adjusts amperage for the welding progresses, cleans root run and examines for cracking or wagon tracks
- Deposits filler run, concentrating on metal and slag control to ensure a defect free weld with good side wall fusion
- Checks whether there is any slag entrapped in the weld
- Deposits sealing run, cleans final weld of all spatter and flux and checks for defects
- Inspect welds for accuracy
- Make sure all care is taken in prevention of distortion during welding
- Understanding radius corners weld intersections (Marine and Offshore specific)
- Basic cutting and perform all grinding, basic flange fitting and alignment.
- Oxy acetylene cutting, purging pipelines and rectification of weld defects
- Dpi testing and weld sequencing/backstep
- Create quality welds according to blueprints
- Responsible for general cost management of projects, estimating the time spent of projects
- Create plans for completion of own projects and those of the team members
- Supervise the boilermakers, plan and organise tasks and work responsibilities to achieve objectives
- Monitor own activities and those of team members and report regularly on project progress, conducting a post-plan review of effectiveness
- Ensure accurate fit up and fabrication of pipes including various materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium etc.
- Understand and interpret technical drawings
- Compile and submit project technical reports when required
- Understand and interpret class society regulations, Marine & Offshore specific
- Ensure accurate fit up and frication of required structures
- Ensure accurate fit up and repair of vessel hull structure and plating, Marine & Offshore specific
