Purpose of Position:

Design, evaluate, and supervise welding operations, ensuring the integrity and quality of welds in accordance with engineering standards, codes, and project requirements. Welding Engineers play a critical role in a variety of manufacturing projects, working on the design and maintenance of welding systems, utilizing advanced techniques like laser technology, training welders, and continuously improving welding processes for efficiency and quality.

Qualifications/Key Requirements:

  • Min 4 Year Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering with Welding Engineer specialization
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in welding coordination, welding engineering or welding quality management
  • Added Advantage: Certified Welding Inspector and/or NDT certification
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office

Key Accountabilities:

Design and Development

  • Design welded parts, assemblies, and structures, including buildings, pressure vessels, pipelines, and other critical infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement welding standards, materials selection, weld joint design, and optimized welding processes.
  • Harness advanced techniques, such as laser technology, for application in a wide range of projects.

Welding procedure Development

  • Develop and qualify welding process procedures, supplier qualifications, and testing protocols to ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
  • Create repair procedures and assess flaws or defects to determine the fitness-for-service of structures and components.
  • Ensure that the welding, heat treatment, hardness testing, inspection and non-destructive testing are in compliance with the relevant codes and specifications

Welding Supervision and Troubleshooting

  • Manage welding operations and troubleshoot issues that arise during welding projects, providing corrective solutions to optimize the welding process.
  • Evaluate and fine-tune processes during welding projects to enhance performance, quality, and productivity.
  • Coordinate with engineering staff as well as liaise with clients on welding requirements
  • Raise non-compliance reports where applicable and ensure satisfactorily closed
  • Investigate welding-related issues to improve product performance and increase productivity across manufacturing processes.
  • Assess welding flaws or challenges, developing strategies to resolve issues and ensure long-term structural integrity.
  • Provide training to welders on new techniques, processes, or design changes, ensuring continuous skill development and adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Mentor and guide welding teams in the implementation of innovative welding processes and methods.

Production Planning

  • In a controlled, workshop-based setting, the welding engineer’s contributions to production planning include:
  • Welding Process Selection and Optimization: Determining the appropriate welding methods (e.g., MIG, TIG, or stick welding) and materials for each project to optimize production speed and quality.
  • Material and Consumable Planning: Specifying required materials (metals, gases, consumables) and planning for efficient stock levels to minimize downtime and waste.
  • Fixture and Tooling Design: Collaborating on the design and arrangement of jigs, fixtures, and tooling to ensure weld consistency and quality while maximizing productivity.
  • Weld Sequence and Scheduling: Developing detailed welding sequences and schedules that align with the broader production timeline and reduce the risk of distortion, rework, or bottlenecks.
  • Quality Control and Testing: Establishing quality control measures (such as non-destructive testing) and inspection points within the production plan to ensure that welds meet safety and quality standards.
  • Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS): Creating and reviewing WPSs, which provide detailed guidelines on welding processes, materials, techniques, and parameters for each project.

Closing date: 14 April 2026
