PURPOSE


To produce a variety of high-quality and fresh Hot Pot specialities by consistently following established recipes and culinary techniques. The Demi Chef supports the overall operations of the hot kitchen section, ensuring food quality, hygiene, safety, and customer service standards are maintained while contributing to memorable customer experiences.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

 

  • Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate)
  • Higher Certificate or relevant culinary qualification
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a Chef de Partie (CDP) or similar role in a 4-star or 5-star hotel, hospitality, retail food service, restaurant, or commercial kitchen environment
  • Experience working independently within a specific kitchen section (hot or cold kitchen)

 

 

ADVANTAGEOUS

 

  • Completed kitchen apprenticeship or chef training programme
  • HACCP Certification
  • Formal culinary qualification
  • Experience within a retail food production environment
  • Knowledge of stock control and food cost management

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Hot Pot & Deli Production

  • Prepare a variety of fresh, high-quality Hot Pot dishes and deli products according to established recipes and standards
  • Execute cooking techniques including grilling, sautéing, braising, roasting, and baking
  • Ensure food preparation, storage, and temperature controls comply with company standards
  • Complete assigned preparation work and maintain efficient food production processes

 

Menu Planning & Product Development

  • Contribute ideas for new menu items and product offerings
  • Stay updated on culinary trends and preparation techniques

 

Stock Control

  • Assist with daily ordering requirements
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels and minimise wastage
  • Support food cost targets and productivity initiatives
  • Receive and store food deliveries according to company procedures

 

Quality & Customer Experience

  • Ensure food presentation and quality standards are consistently achieved
  • Deliver excellent customer service through authentic, caring, and passionate interactions
  • Maintain consistency in product quality and customer satisfaction

 

Health, Safety & Hygiene

  • Adhere to all food safety, hygiene, and HACCP standards
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operating procedures
  • Report hazards, incidents, and equipment defects
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment
