Location: OL Centre, Windhoek

 

Purpose of position

To drive the implementation of the Group Environmental and Sustainability Strategy across the OL Group by ensuring environmental compliance, sound governance, effective risk management and sustainability integration into operations and strategy in support of the Group's Vision 2029 objectives. The role serves as the custodian of the Environmental and Sustainability Management Function across the Group.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Honours Degree in Environmental / Sustainability Management.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience in Environmental Management.
  • Minimum 3 years' managerial experience.
  • Experience in Environmental Management Systems (EMS) implementation.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 14001 requirements.

Advantageous

  • Degree or Diploma in Law.
  • IFRS S1 and S2 / GRI knowledge.
  • SAP knowledge and experience.

 

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

Environmental and Sustainability Strategy

  • Develop and facilitate implementation of the Group Environmental Strategy
  • Develop and facilitate implementation of the Group Sustainability Strategy.
  • Review environmental and sustainability policies, frameworks, objectives and targets.
  • Monitor and report on progress against strategic objectives.

Environmental and Sustainability Management Systems

  • Develop, implement and maintain Environmental and Sustainability Management Systems aligned to ISO 14001 and best practice.
  • Monitor system compliance across operating companies.
  • Facilitate management reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.

Environmental and Sustainability Risk Management

  • Ensure environmental and sustainability risks are identified, assessed and communicated.
  • Facilitate risk mitigation plans and monitor implementation.
  • Report on environmental and sustainability risk management effectiveness.

Legal and Regulatory Compliance

  • Conduct bi-annual reviews for all required sites
  • Facilitate Environmental Clearance Certificate applications and renewals.
  • Provide guidance to operating companies as it pertains with to the environmental permits and licences required as per site activities 
  • Monitor compliance with permits, licences and environmental legislation.
  • Engage with regulatory authorities and external stakeholders.

Sustainability Programme Management

  • Develop and maintain the Group Sustainability Programme.
  • Align sustainability initiatives with business strategy and recognized sustainability frameworks.
  • Facilitate sustainability governance and stakeholder alignment.

Sustainability Reporting and Governance

  • Coordinate sustainability data collection, validation and reporting.
  • Prepare sustainability dashboards and reports.
  • Facilitate Group Sustainability Steering Committee reviews.
  • Facilitate Opco specific Sustainability Committee reviews
  • Coordinate and where necessary draft and submit environmental and sustainability disclosures for the Annual Integrated Report.

Environmental and Sustainability Awareness

  • Coordinate environmental and sustainability awareness programmes at Group and Opco level
  • Support environmental and sustainability projects and initiatives across the Group.

Environmental Incident Management

  • Investigate environmental incidents and ensure appropriate reporting and corrective actions
  • Provide inputs into site specific emergency response plans
  • Review site preparedness to adequately respond to environmental incidents
  • Participate in governmental / authority investigations in the event of a reportable incident

Data and document management

  • Ensure that required environmental and sustainability data is maintained at Group and Opco level
  • Ensure that reports are maintained as per document retention requirements
  • Ensure that incident related information is maintained as per document retention requirements
  • Ensure that permits and certificates are maintained as per the document retention requirements

 

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to Group operating sites.
  • Ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, auditors, and sustainability partners.
