Job Profile: Financial Controller
Job Purpose
The purpose of this position is to provide accurate reporting to the Group and to ensure technical compliance in terms of IFRS, taxation and Companies Act in the O&L Group of Companies.
Key Responsibilities
- Group Weekly / Monthly financial reporting
- Compiling the Business Performance report for the Group which needs to be distributed as agreed on an annual basis.
- Financial Control
- Monthly review of management accounts of specific O&L subsidiaries allocated to the Financial Controller.
- Attending the Detailed Business Performance meetings of the specific allocated O&L subsidiary.
- Half-year Reporting Process
- Review accounting records and half-year packs of specific O&L subsidiaries allocated to the Financial Controller.
- Drafting of findings for inclusion in the Group Half year report
- Performing one to two of the four consolidations required for half-year results.
- Drafting of the Group Half year interim report for presentation to the audit committee.
- Group Budget process
- Review budgets of allocated companies for reasonability and arithmetic accuracy and that all factors on the strategic metrics and breakthrough plans have been taken into account.
- Setting up of budgets for smaller head office entities.
- Assisting with Budget report for Board pack.
- Year-end Reporting Process
- Adjust group reporting pack and Annual report with latest changes in IFRS
- Performing technically difficult consolidations such as WUM Consolidation, Energy, COFI and Olfitra consolidation
- Performing consolidated set of financials for Olfitra and/or WUM and/or Energy and/or COFI
- Preparing subsidiaries (allocated) Annual Financial Statements for direct review by the auditors.
- One financial controller will be responsible for doing the AFS portion of the Olfitra Annual Report whilst; the other financial controller will be responsible for drafting and co-ordinating Olfitra Annual Report.
- Performing consolidations of O&L Holdings and preparing the consolidated Annual Financial statements.
- Tax Returns
- Completion of companies tax returns for allocated subsidiaries
- Completion of the provisional tax returns for allocated Group companies
- Follow up on queries with the Receiver of Revenue after discussion with Consolidations and Financial Reporting Manager.
- Monitor technical compliance in terms of IFRS, taxation and Companies Act in the O&L Group of Companies and advise for correction.
- Professional Assistance & Advise
- Assist the Consolidations and Financial Reporting Manager with drafting information required by Banks.
- Investigate technical queries iro of IFRS, Companies Act or Tax Act and other texts to suggest a solution to various operating companies in the O&L Group.
- Calculating complex accounting entries such as for the BEE transactions, new acquisitions or disposals within the O&L Group.
- Reviewing of contracts within the O&L Group.
- Provide professional financial advice for special projects
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
- B. Accounting (Honours) degree / CTA,
- Qualified Chartered Accountant with completed articles
- At least one-year managerial experience.
