Network Engineer (L2)

 

Position Summary

The Network Engineer will provide managed services to ensure client IT infrastructure remains fully operational. This includes proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving technical incidents within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The role provides second-line support on medium-complexity incidents and may contribute to project-related work when required.

 

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT/Computing or equivalent experience.
  • CCNP or equivalent certification (advantageous).
  • Additional relevant certifications will carry extra weight.

 

Experience

  • Three to five years of experience in a similar role within a reputable IT organisation.
  • Working knowledge of ITSM/ticketing systems.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and maintain network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.
  • Proactively monitor work queues and resolve incidents and requests within SLA.
  • Accurately update and document ticket resolutions.
  • Investigate and analyse technical issues, ensuring timely incident logging.
  • Capture relevant information to support immediate and effective resolution.
  • Provide second-level support and identify root causes of recurring issues.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to extend technical support.
  • Execute approved changes including patching, with clear risk and mitigation documentation.
  • Participate in shift handover processes and highlight priority tickets.
  • Escalate incidents as required, ensuring appropriate focus from internal teams.
  • Work closely with automation teams to optimise effort and automate routine tasks.
  • Coach and support L1 and Service Desk teams in technical and behavioural development.
  • Establish and maintain monitoring for client environments.
  • Identify and resolve problems before client services are impacted.
  • Lead initial client escalations relating to operational issues.
  • Support the change management process by logging standard and non-standard changes.
  • Plan and execute maintenance activities with proper approvals.
  • Audit incident and request tickets for quality and provide improvement recommendations.
  • Produce trend analysis reports to identify automation opportunities and reduce ticket volumes.
  • Contribute to project work and Disaster Recovery testing when required.

    • Palo Alto & Fortinet Firewalls
    • Cisco Nexus, ASR, ISR
    • Cisco ACS, ISE
    • Meraki switching and wireless
    • Enterprise network architecture
    • BGP, OSPF, EIGRP
    • NAT and ISP uplink troubleshooting (DIA, MPLS, P2P)
    • SecureCRT, LogicMonitor, and other monitoring tools
