Location: based in Windhoek (with regular travelling to Arandis, Okahandja, Lüderitz and Walvis Bay)

 

Safety Across Multiple Operations

We are seeking a high-performing Safety Officer to support and strengthen safety and environmental performance across multiple operating companies within the Group.

This role goes beyond compliance — it is an opportunity to drive safety culture, influence operational leadership and embed a consistent, high-standard Safety Management System across diverse business units.

You will act as a key operational partner to site management, ensuring that safety systems are not only implemented, but actively lived within daily operations. You will also support the Group Environmental and Sustainability Program.

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To monitor, evaluate and drive the effective implementation of safety and environmental management systems across multiple operations, ensuring compliance with:

  • Risk Assessment and Operational Safety
  • Environmental Management Plans (EMP)
  • Fire Management Plans
  • Emergency Preparedness Plans
  • Applicable Namibian legislation and international standards

The role further requires proactive engagement with operational teams to improve safety performance, reduce risk exposure, and support sustainable business operations.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or Degree in Safety Management or equivalent
  • SAMTRAC / NEBOSH (or similar recognised qualification)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a safety management role
  • Proven experience in multi-site or group operational environments
  • Strong working knowledge of Namibian safety legislation
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 systems and implementation
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly

Advantageous Experience

  • Exposure to FMCG, energy/infrastructure, leisure or food production environments
  • Experience with fire risk management and emergency planning
  • Formal training in incident investigation methodologies (e.g. RCA, ICAM)

 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Operational Safety Management

  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the Group Safety Management System aligned to ISO 4500.
  • Ensure standardisation of safety practices across all supported Operating Companies.
  • Conduct site inspections and verify adherence to safety procedures and controls.

Risk Management

  • Conduct and review baseline and task-based risk assessments.
  • Evaluate risks associated with new projects, processes, and operational changes.
  • Recommend practical and effective control measures.

Compliance & Assurance

  • Perform compliance audits and reviews against legal and internal requirements.
  • Maintain legal appointments in line with Group frameworks.
  • Ensure readiness for internal and external audits.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Ensure all incidents are reported, investigated, and closed out effectively.
  • Analyse trends and provide actionable recommendations to management.
  • Ensure statutory reporting to the Ministry of Labour where required.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Plan and coordinate emergency drills and response testing.
  • Evaluate effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Act as an advisor to line management, supervisors and SLT.
  • Influence decision-making on safety, fire and environmental risks.
  • Support the development of a strong, proactive safety culture.

Performance Monitoring

  • Track and report on key safety metrics (e.g. incident rates, audit findings, corrective actions).
  • Drive accountability for the closure of non-conformances and action items.
