Location: Windhoek (Okahandja District)
Purpose of position
Leads the operational division, optimizing assets and minimizing costs. Oversees "Bush to Energy" equipment operations, driving ROI, profitability, and sales growth through strategic planning. Manages assets and develops team capabilities for long-term success.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the earthmoving equipment industry, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or similar leadership role.
- Proven experience in managing teams and overseeing equipment operations in a similar environment.
- Strong understanding of component refurbishment, wear forecasting, and equipment life cycle costing.
- Familiarity with parts supply and logistics, particularly in support of wood-chipping or similar industries.
- Proficient in MS Office and general computer literacy for operational reporting and planning.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Oversight & Maintenance
- Supervise daily use and movement of mobile and stationary equipment across sites.
- Monitor equipment hours, condition, downtime, and performance metrics.
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on diesel, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems using appropriate tools and software.
- Replace major components (e.g. engines, transmissions, brakes) and ensure adherence to OEM schedules.
Workshop & Inventory Management
- Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient workshop.
- Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability of critical components.
- Calibrate and maintain tools, lifting gear, and diagnostic equipment.
Team Supervision & Training
- Lead and support a small team of operators, drivers, and assistants.
- Allocate tasks, assess work quality, and conduct safety briefings and on-the-job training.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all safety, health, environmental, and legal compliance requirements.
- Conduct site and equipment inspections and implement Lockout/Tagout and emergency protocols.
Planning, Reporting & Budgeting
- Develop and manage maintenance schedules and contribute to budgeting.
- Keep accurate service records and report on equipment downtime, performance KPIs, and monthly production outputs.
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with OEMs, suppliers, and service contractors.
- Oversee service level agreements, procurement support, and vendor performance evaluations.
Strategic & Operational Support
- Support implementation of quality assurance and operational efficiency initiatives.
- Assist with data collection, cost control, risk mitigation, and delivery on productivity targets.
Leadership & Performance Management
- Lead in alignment with company values and standards.
- Manage team performance, discipline, and grievance handling.
- Provide regular mentorship and align people with tasks based on skills.
Ad Hoc Duties
- Fulfil reasonable requests from management.
- Uphold safety, housekeeping, engineering quality, and company values at all times.
